Dogon Door
Traditional Dogon doors from Mali are hand-carved from solid tropical hardwoods native to West Africa. Originally created by the Dogon people as protective granary doors, these remarkable pieces carry deep spiritual and cultural significance beyond their functional purpose.
Crafted primarily from African teak (iroko), and occasionally from other dense hardwoods such as ebony or mahogany, each door is richly decorated with symbolic relief carvings. Common motifs include ancestors, mythical figures, lizards, crocodiles, and protective symbols believed to guard the harvest and bring prosperity.
Today, these antique and vintage doors are highly valued as statement wall décor, collectible architectural pieces, and soulful additions to eclectic, wabi-sabi, bohemian, or globally inspired interiors.
