Luba Caryatid Stool
Authentic hand-carved caryatid stool from the Luba people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Traditionally created as a symbol of authority and prestige, these sculptural stools represented ancestral connection and were associated with respected leaders and ceremonial status.
The supporting female figure reflects the matrilineal traditions of Luba culture, where lineage and leadership were closely connected to female ancestry. Expertly carved from solid wood, the sculpture features refined detailing, including elaborate hairstyles characteristic of the Shankadi artistic style.
